Zink the Zebra
·
Program in a Box
|
|
description |
Kelly Weil, an
11-year-old who had cancer, wrote the story of Zink
the Zebra to help kids understand that sick children
need friends, too. Girls will learn about cancer and
get ideas for service projects to help children who
are ill. This program was developed by Girl Scouts
of Milwaukee and is used all over the country.
Activities include reading and discussion of the
book and discussion about the author and her
illness. Girls will create a story book, and the box
includes suggestions for service projects. Guided
roleplay teaches tolerance for and appreciation of
people’s differences. The program links to level
badges. There is info about cancer to help the
facilitator to guide discussion and answer questions
with sensitivity. A patch and a beanbag zebra are
available for $5pg (includes both), and the program
suggests ways to incorporate them into the
experience. |

reserve |
Your troop can borrow this packaged program, which
contains everything needed to run it during your
meetings, including instructions, activities, sample
projects, shopping lists for materials and
explanations of the purpose and results you should
expect. The leadership team conducts the program at
their own pace, so it is perfectly suited to the
level and abilities of the girls. The program is
available on loan, free of charge, from the Service
Center. If you notify us ahead of time, we can
deliver to your next Service Unit meeting. To
reserve, submit an
online request form, or email
Lola Furtado. |
