  White Ribbon Guide

To qualify for the White Ribbon, your troop's project must:
  • benefit the non-Girl-Scout community
  • fulfill a community need
  • include a Project Plan written by girls, following this guide
  • include girls’ evaluation via online form, journals or video
  • include leaders' evaluation
  • include a press release to local media

1. Make a Project Plan according  Project Planning Guidelines   |   Project Plan Forms.

2. Execute the plan.  Girls and leaders should make sure that the pace and content of the steps allow you to have fun while you work, so the experience of service is enjoyable.  Take lots of pictures (and video if possible) and use them as part of your evaluation.

3. Evaluate your project along the way and make adjustments to keep it productive and focused on your goals. Keep a written log or video journal.

4. When you are done, have a formal discussion about the experience as a troop.

  • What did you learn, and how will it help you from now on?

  • What worked, what didn’t and why?

  • How you might change your plan if you had to do it over again?

  • Did you meet your goals?

  • Did you change your perceptions about the issue?

  • Do you need to follow up?

  • Do other people have similar needs you could meet?

  • Can you teach another troop about your project and help them to do it for the community?

  • Does your project have a long-term option?

  • Will your troop follow up in the future?

5. The girls and leaders evaluate the project.  You may use the forms provided or you may use your own style of evaluation, via video, journals or other ways. The girls can evaluate the project individually or as a group.

6. Ask the people you served to evaluate the project.

7. Communicate with the council!  We want to celebrate your accomplishments and let the world know what you did!  Send us pictures (of girls, recipients, items they made) and girl’s comments.

8. Celebrate with the troop, the people you served and everyone who helped the troop with the project. Recognize achievement by awarding certificates or ribbons at a ceremony.

9. Write thank-you notes to everyone who helped.
