White Ribbon Community Service Learning Award

The emotional rewards of service are enormous, and the satisfaction that comes from real accomplishments does more than anything else to build real self-esteem. Although all service is valuable, its most profound effects come when the project is sustained over time, so girls invest in them fully. The White Ribbon celebrates service to those outside of the Girl Scout organization, encouraging troops to recognize local needs and connect in a helpful way in their communities.  We wish every troop the joy of achieving something that actually made the world a better place and improved the well-being of other people.

The White Ribbon is for the troop's flag.  Girls in the troop receive a certificate, if you email their names with the rest of the required information.

The ribbon is awarded to troops for creating and carrying out an original community service project that:

  • benefits the non-Girl-Scout community
  • fulfills a community need
  • includes an action plan written by girls following the service learning process
  • includes girls’ evaluation via journals or video
  • includes a press release to local media

For info and support, contact Wendy Garf-Lipp, the Community Ties Program Manager.
